Friends of 5

"Friends of 5" is a group of volunteers committed to helping Ward 5 Neighborhood Centre provide programs necessary in our Community, most notably our Breakfast program. The original "Friends of 5" consisted mainly of "Loaned Representatives" lent to United Way by their individual employers to run their 1995 Campaign. After the Campaign was complete the group decided to stay together to continue helping the community and to put to use the skills learned with United Way.

Numerous volunteers have joined us from St. Joseph's School, employees of Ward 5, students, and others who care. Our group helps out at the Annual Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving Dinners, and operates various projects, but our main fundraiser is the "Poor Boys Night"; an evening of Maritime Entertainment and a Nova Scotia traditional Saturday night meal "Beans and Weiners", from which all funds go to the breakfast program.

Halifax Volunteer Group

The Halifax Volunteer Group provides an excellent social opportunity for members, a major role of the club would be a resource to Ward 5 Neighborhood Centre, located on Russell Street in Halifax. Our goal is to fundraise for children's programs so that they can continue to expand, and provide quality events and activities for the children in the North End to enjoy.

The current membership is 25 and growing. There are members from government, private business, hospitals, universities and banks. The Club operates a "Report for Law Program; "Bike Rodeo", "Picnic in the Park", and a major fundraiser "Beef and Bid".
